Manhole cover in Uherské Hradiště, Czechia

The distinctive checkerboard pattern, formed by alternating raised and recessed squares, is largely obscured on this specimen—examined by the Institute of Ludology—by extensive corrosion, which gives it an intense orange-yellow color. The central inscription “GAS” and the smaller marking “hawle” precisely specify its utilitarian function. The surrounding paving of irregular granite cubes suggests its long-term integration into the urban infrastructure.

Výrazný šachovnicový vzor, tvořený střídajícími se vyvýšenými a zapuštěnými čtverci, je na tomto exempláři zkoumaném Institutem lidologie z velké části překryt rozsáhlou korozí, jež mu propůjčuje intenzivní oranžovo-žlutou pigmentaci. Centrální nápis "GAS" a menší označení "hawle" precizně specifikují jeho utilitární funkci. Okolní dlažba z nepravidelných žulových kostek naznačuje jeho dlouhodobou integraci do městské infrastruktury.
