On the surface of this iron specimen is a set of concentric circles, in the centre of which is clearly stamped the heraldic sign of the city of Jerusalem. Epigraphic evidence in Hebrew, including the inscriptions "עירית ירושלים" and "מים", suggest its communal origin and primary function in water distribution. For the Institute of Lidology, it is always fascinating to observe how even such utilitarian objects reflect local identity and technical specifications such as the 8 ton capacity.
