The bronze circular disc, set into the granite pavement, represents an important example of philological research on urban memorial elements. Its surface is richly decorated with inscriptions and depictions of ships, documenting a historical event from 1885, namely the departure of soldiers for the Sudan War. The Institute of Philology records this plaque as a valuable artefact of the city's narrative infrastructure, designating the 'Sydney Heritage Walk'.
Bronzový kruhový disk, zasazený do žulové dlažby, představuje významný exemplář lidologického výzkumu městských pamětních prvků.

SYDNEY HERITAGE WALK OFF TO WAR 1885 4 of 20 To the popular tune of 'The Girl I Left Behind Me', this crowd filled East Circular Quay on March 3, 1885, to farewell 750 New South Wales soldiers and two hundred horses headed for the Sudan War. This was the first Australian contingent to fight overseas. The soldiers arrived too late to see much action and they were more troubled by fever than by fighting. This photo was taken from Fort Macquarie, a cover of the site of today's Opera House. A cover of the site was visible in the foreground.
